WERE STILL IN SECOND PLACE!!
After a big lose we manage to stay in second position.
EPC VS Nottingham
With the absence of David Palmer, Sarah Fitz-Gerald and the late withdrawal of Olli Touminen Edgbaston were in for a very tough match, securing a point was the objective.
Peter Barker Vs Tommy Berden
4/9 5/9 2/9
This being one match where we thought we might have a good chance of sneaking a point wasn’t to be, from the word go Peter looked out of sorts and was missing shots that you would have put your house on him making.
Tommy’s slow ball technique really seemed to give Peter too much time on the ball which made him think to much and sometimes if you think you can be that bit indecisive. Peter took something away from this match and that is to not get frustrated when you’re not playing at 100%, if you stick at it you can sometimes get the result.
Isabelle Stoehr Vs Natalie Grinham
A good start by Isabelle dominating the higher ranked player and earned herself a 7-0 lead before Natalie recovered but the gap was too big, the visitor taking the first 9-6. From then on Natalie stepped up the pace and speed pushing Isabelle back and forcing errors from the French number one.
Natalie took the next three games and looked the world class player that she is.
Hadrian Stiff Vs David Evans
6/9 5/9 4/9
With a great start from Hadrian it looked like he’d got the game to really pressurize David but the famous backhand of Mr. Evans started to work and then it was all about finishing the rally’s off. Hadrian didn’t do anything wrong, David was just that one step ahead.
Del Harris Vs Simon Parke
On the hot courts Simon used his home advantage to work the game and be patient. His opponent though opened up the court creating some awesome winning shots, but unfortunately for EPC some errors as well. Simon always looked in control towards the end of each game, and the result was the same as it was in the final, 3-0 to the Nottingham player.
Adrian Grant Vs John White
7/9 9/2 10/8 3/9
This was another chance for Adrian to shine. John White was unlucky to be World Number One at the beginning of the year and I expect him to get there sooner rather than later, so Adrian was up against it. The first was unlucky and close Adrian made littery one too many mistakes. The 2nd saw Adrian play the way he can, focusing and attacking from the volley and with some expert death touches from the back of the court saw a glimmer of hope. The 3rd was crucial and Adrian was so close he had definitely flustered the World number 2 and he just missed out. The 4th saw Adrian lose the belief that he could win and if you do that against a master like John you will be punished. The last shot from John had so much pace and accuracy hitting a straight backhand nick off the back wall!!! Some finish.
With Nottingham hot on our tails it’s time for us to give a big push forwards. Nottingham have a tough next match against League leaders Manchester Pontefract, we face Manchester Northern at Edgbaston on the 20th and we will be fielding a strong side so we will hope to extend the 3 point margin between us and Nottingham. Our secret weapon has yet to be played this half???? Also the good news is that Olli Touminen’s injury isn’t that bad, so the flying fin will be back with us soon.
