BROXBOURNE DOWN BUT NOT OUT
Geoff Long hasn't given up hope of making the final - he knows his team will sweat blood in the cause ...
I would like to to first of all thank Matt Suckling and his team for the
hospitality shown to both our players and supporters. The match was played in a great spirit despite all the 'will he won't he' debates relating to David Palmer.
David Palmer himself was a credit to the sport and played with great passion and certainly was not going to make things easy for Greg Gaultier. I must mention that although much was made about Davids dash to Edgbaston from Canary Wharfe, our Gregg had been travelling since leaving his home in Aix en Provence at 8.00 in the morning, a 2 hour coach ride followed by a 2 hour flight and a one hour train ride got him to Broxbourne, another 2 and a half hour coach drive got him to Edgbaston where he had a 5 hour wait before going on court. All this with his body clock being in French time one hour ahead. He actually went on court at approx. 11.20 his time.
The squash that the priviledged spectators was treated to was of the highest order with all players giving 100%, I have to say that the refereeing in some cases did not reach the same high standard as the squash, a view that I am sure is shared by Matt Suckling. In some cases decisions given were a mystery to both home and away supporters.
We are down but certainly not out, having picked up games in all of the
matches that we lost we are still in with a shout, and anyone who knows anything about this Broxbourne team will know that they will sweat blood on court for the club and for the home supporters who will be as vocal as ever. Bring on the second leg !!
