We were always up against it!
Edgbaston Priory Vs Manchester Pontefract
We were always going to struggle against Pontefract as we were much depleted, but the players got stuck in and gave there all, which is all we asked for of any of our players.
Emma Beddoes had been asked to play on Saturday when Isabelle had to pull out because of her injury, which meant Emma didn’t have too much time to prepare, especially as she had just had
reading week at Uni which meant she was busy working??? Despite this Emma got stuck in but was always on the back foot, digging shots out of the back corners for Madeline to finish off with winners to the front. It was a good run for Emma.
Adam Stevenson had the up hill task of taking on Marcus Berret the undefeated banker! Even after having beaten the likes of Martin Heath to get to the final of the BSPA in Edinburgh to face the awesome John White and then having played Simon Park in Super league the night before where he had a 3-2 just beating the might of Parky. Berrett still had fuel in the tank to display awesome fire power against a disoriented Stevenson on the all glass court for the first time (some might say they have an advantage with the home court). Adam managed to steal a game which would later crown him man of the match for Edgbaston.
Jon Harford Birmingham University’s Number one was stepping up a few levels to face the Irish Number One and world 61 Jon Rooney. Harford was very nervous in the first and just couldn’t adjust to the pace. The second game saw the player that we know, Harford was with Mr Rooney if fact he was 7-3 up and playing good quality squash, but it got tight and Harford managed to just make the mistake that Rooney just never looked like making. A good lesson for Harford, he now knows what he’s got to do to raise his game.
Hadrian Stiff the Performa! Well almost. Tonight just wasn’t his night, the long trip up the M6 had taken it’s toll on Hadrian’s back especially as the master of disguise at the front of the court Taylor sent Hadrian the wrong way in the first rally. From that moment Hadrian was in trouble, he couldn’t establish his length or width and against a determined Taylor. Nice to see Taylor playing his true game, just a shame he had to do it against Hadrian! One to forget for Hadrian.
So Del, the master of finishing rally’s off with his power, his accuracy and of course his flare, was really going to have to pull something out of his bag of tricks against the ever improving Lee Beachill. Well Del was playing well, but Lee was in first gear, cruising around the court collecting everything Del had to give and Lee was hitting some excellent length’s which was making Del scramble around the court. Lee was just too good. I wouldn’t bet against him in the Nationals!
Well from being in a good position to being in a not so good position. We have a big match against Duffield, if we have the players available we have a good chance to make the play off’s still. Our saving grace is Duffield have to play Manchester Pontefract last match of the season which makes it hard for them to secure more points.
