Defending Champs
into US Finals ...

The defending US Nationals champions, Preston Quick and Latasha Khan, both moved into the finals in Seattle.

Quick continued his record of 3/0 wins in the event, beating Jamie Crombie to reach his third successive final. He will face a new opponent this time though, as top seed and 2002 champion Damian Walker became the latest victim of Michael Puertas, who completed another five-game victory to deny Walker a fourth consecutive final appearance.

In the women's semis Latasha Khan avenged sister Shabana's semi-final defeat at the hands of Michelle Quibell in straight games, while Preston's sister Meredith beat second seed Louisa Hall in a see-saw five game semi-final.

The women's final is a repeat of last year, when the Quicks became the first brother-sister team to reach the National finals, so they will be hoping for a historic family double celebration in Sunday's climax.

Men's Quarter-Finals:
[1] Damian Walker bt Beau River   9/4, 9/1, 9/3
[4] Michael Puertas bt Ryan Donegan  7/9, 10/8, 9/0, 4/9, 10/9
[3] Jamie Crombie bt Julian Illingworth  2/9, 6/9, 9/3, 9/2, 9/2
[2] Preston Quick bt Chris Gordon    10/9, 9/1, 9/0

[3] Meredith Quick bt Ivy Pachoda  6/9, 9/5, 9/8, 0/9, 9/5
[2] Louisa Hall bt Margaret Elias  9/1, 9/2, 9/5

19-Mar:
Top seeds Untroubled
in US quarters

The top two seeds in both men's and women's events in the 2004 US Nationals in Seattle moved relatively untroubled into the semi-finals while their prospective opponents all endured five-game battles.

Defending women's champion Latasha Khan was expected to meet her sister Shabana in the semi-finals, but the 2001 champion was outlasted by Michelle Quibell, who recently collected the national college title and led her Yale team to the team title College Finals from Yale

Second seed Louisa Hall faces Meredith Quick in the other semi-final.

The men's defending champion, Preston Quick, survived a close call to take the first game 10/9 against Chris Gordon, who is training and playing in the UK, but was untroubled thereafter dropping just one more point.

Top seed Damian Walker dropped just eight points against UK-based Beau River, and both Quick and Walker will have enjoyed seeing Michael Puertas and Jamie Crombie work their way to 3/2 quarter-final victories.
