Mosaad Wins Maiden Title In Iran
In a battle between two Egyptian teenagers in the final of the FAJR Squash International on Kish Island, it was the younger player Omar Mosaad who triumphed to claim the first ever PSA Tour title in Iran.
Mosaad, the 17-year-old second seed from Cairo, recovered from a game down to beat unseeded 19-year-old Ahmed Gamal Swaify 9-11, 11-10 (2-0), 11-2, 11-4 in 43 minutes.
Swaify, also from Cairo and in only his second appearance in a PSA event, had reached his first final after beating four seeds in the event – including Hong Kong's top seed Wai Hang Wong in the quarter-finals.
Mosaad, a two-times British Junior U17 Open champion who is coached by former Australian international Anthony Hill, is celebrating his first PSA Tour title.
Swaify Sweeps Into All-Egyptian Final On Kish Island
Unseeded Egyptian teenager Ahmed Gamal Swaify claimed his fourth seeded scalp in the FAJR Squash International on Kish Island as he swept into the final of the first ever PSA Tour event in Iran.
In only his second appearance on the PSA Tour, 19-year-old Swaify despatched Malaysia's fourth seed Timothy Arnold 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 in the semi-finals to secure his first time in a PSA final.
His opponent will be second-seeded compatriot Omar Mosaad. The 17-year-old from Cairo, who is coached by former Australian international Anthony Hill, brushed aside Egyptian opponent Amr Ramzy Swelim, the third seed, 11-6, 11-6, 11-10 (2-0).
Mosaad, twice a British Junior U17 Open champion, is also celebrating his maiden appearance in a PSA Tour final.
Swaify Storms Into Semis Of First New PSA Event In Iran
In only his second appearance on the PSA Tour, Egyptian teenager Ahmed Gamal Swaify stormed into the semi-finals of the FAJR Squash International on Kish Island in Iran after upsetting Hong Kong's top seed Wai Hang Wong.
In the first ever PSA Tour event in Iran, three local players made it through to the second round of the $6,000 FAJR International before losing out to established international players.
Swaify, a 19-year-old former Egyptian junior international from Alexandria, took just 29 minutes to overcome Wai Hang Wong 11-5, 11-8, 11-8 in today's (Thursday) quarter-finals to set up a meeting with fourth seed Timothy Arnold. The Malaysian also beat a Hong Kong opponent, sixth seed Dick Lau.
The other semi-final will be an all-Egyptian affair between Amr Ramzy Swelim and Omar Mosaad. Third seed Swelim beat seventh-seeded compatriot Mohamed Elkeiy 9-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-6, while Mosaad, the No2 seed, defeated Malaysia's fifth seed Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan 8-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-9.
