Koukal Celebrates Prague Double

Czech squash star Jan Koukal collected his second PSA Tour title in his hometown in a week when he beat fellow qualifier Chris Ryder in the final of the Petr's Prague Open at Squashpark Cibulka in the Czech Republic capital.

The 22-year-old from Prague, who won the Czech Open last week - also as a qualifier - recovered from a game down to Englishman Chris Ryder before taking the next three to record a 10-11 11-4 11-9 11-7 victory.
The success marks Koukal's fifth PSA title triumph – remarkably, all of which have been in Prague! Thus the Czech number one boast an unbeaten Tour record in his hometown of almost two years – since he first won the Czech Open in February 2004.

Ryder & Koukal In Prague Final

In a rare PSA Tour event final featuring two qualifiers, Englishman Chris Ryder and local hero Jan Koukal will meet in the climax of the Petr's Prague Open Squash Championship at Squashpark Cibulka in the Czech Republic capital.

Ryder made his breakthrough when he removed Zimbabwe's top seed Jesse Engelbrecht in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, the 25-year-old qualifier from Hertfordshire beat eighth-seeded compatriot Darren Lewis 11-8 11-10 11-7

Jan Koukal reached his second successive PSA final in his hometown as a qualifier when he beat France's fifth seed Romain Tenant 11-7 11-9 10-11 11-6.

Koukal Continues Czech Charge
A few days after winning the Czech Open as a qualifier, local hero Jan Koukal continued his hometown success in Prague by upsetting seventh seed El Iraky Omar Abd El Aziz in the first round of the Petr's Prague Open Squash Championship at Squashpark Cibulka in the Czech Republic capital.

Again a qualifier, Koukal survived one of the longest tie-break games on record when he beat his Egyptian opponent 11-10 (10-8), 11-9, 8-11, 11-7 to take his unexpected place in the last eight.

England's Chris Ryder also claimed a notable upset. The 25-year-old qualifier from Hertfordshire beat France's sixth seed Yann Perrin 11-8 7-11 11-2 11-7.
