While three of England's prospects where warning up for the British Open in Manchester, Peter Nicol, the titleholder was in Germany on European Club Championship duty helping to win the title - for the German club Paderborn! Still in some ways it was an English victory as the team comprised Nicol, Tim Garner, Stefan Leifels and Lars Osthoff against another English team playing under the Hungarian flag. Rozsadombi, comprised Marcus Berrett, Joey Barrington, Peter Genever and Andras Torok. Paderborn won 3-1 to give the club a hat trick of titles in the competition.

The women's event was won by SC Bordesholm, the German clubs eam comprising Annelize Naude, Katharina Witt, Daniela Schumann who beat Pontefract's Becky Botwright, Lauren Siddall, Kirst McPhee 2-1.

It was Englishman Tim Garner who sealed the 3/1 victory for Paderborn in his third successive appearance in the final for the club. In the second string rubber against final newcomers Rózsadombi Sport Egyesület the former world No26 from London took the all-important first game against compatriot Joey Barrington to make it impossible for the Hungarian club to overcome the Paderborn lead. In the women's event, English club Pontefract were celebrating their fourth successive appearance in the final. But the all-English squad lost out to ISC Bordesholm by a 2/1 margin – Dutch star Annelize Naude clinching victory for the German club with a 9-6 9-5 9-5 win over former European champion Rebecca Botwright.
