Hansen Denies Whitlock Hat-Trick In Colwyn Classic

Denmark's Line Hansen denied local star Emily Whitlock a third successive title when she beat the No2 seed in the final of the Women's Colwyn Classic, the WSA Tour 10 squash event in its third year at Le Sport Health & Fitness in Rhos-on-Sea, Wales.

"Both players played some of their best squash to give a nail-biting match that could have gone either way," said event spokesman Mark Carnall.

"Emily (pictured below, left, with Hansen) started the match extremely well, playing her best squash of the tournament so far to take the first game quite comfortably. Her attacking play seemed to take Line by surprise and it looked as if an upset could be on the cards for the young starlet playing at her home club.

"With the match tied at one-all in games and Emily 4-0 up, you could see Line knew that the next few points would decide the match. Line showed her class and used all her experience to start raising the pace of her game by taking the ball earlier, and being more clinical when in a commanding position.

"This won her the important third game and then the match."

The 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5 victory marks up the 14th Tour title of world No24 Hansen's career - but her first of the year.
