July 2014: Seed No.2 Aakash Gupta upset
Top seeder Shreyas Mehta (1) by 3-1 in the Boys U-11 category on
final day of the annual NSCI Juniors & Doubles Open Squash
Championship, held at the NSCI sports Complex, Worli.
In Boys U-11 category,
NSCI club member and No.1 seed Shreyas Mehta was thrashed by Aakash
Gupta(2) convincingly by 3-1(11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 13-11). Aakash was
thrilled to beat Shreyas, a player of such great caliber.
In Girls U-11
category, Aishwarya Khubchandani(5/8) beat Abhishekha Shannon(2) by
3-1 (11-6, 2-11, 11-6, 11-9) and emerged a proud winner. It was an
upset for Seed No.2 Abhishekha Shannon who played well but was not
enough.
In Boys U-15 Dev
Vazirani(1) beat Tushar Shahani (2) by 3-2 (12-10, 8-11, 11-5, 9-11,
11-6) in a tough and interesting final.
In Girls U-15, top
seeder Ashita Bhengra convincingly beat M. Kiruttigha (14) by 3-0
(11-6 11-9, 11-8)
This year, the
tournament witnessed players’ participation from different states
across Pan-India like Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu,
Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan,
Haryana, Delhi, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh.
The tournament has
helped the players improve his/her seed rankings and will provide
opportunities for the National and Asian championship.
NSCI feels proud to be
associated with this tournament and squash as a game.
22nd July 2014: Ashita Pranaya Bhengra defeated Aa Gondi 11-5, 11-6,
11-7 in a Under-15 semi-final match and reached the final of the
NSCI Juniors & Doubles Open Squash Championship 2014, held at the
NSCI Sports Complex, Worli today.
Ashita maintained her domination through-out the match and didn’t
allow her opponent to fight back. Her hard work was seen at the
court as she won the match in straight set.
In another U-15 semi-final, M. Kruttigha outplayed Koel Shankar
7-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 6-8 in a hard fought match to reach the
final. In Under-13 semi-final match, Ananya Dabke beat Aryaa Ogale
11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 12-10 and reached the final of his category.
In Boys’ U-15 category, Dev Vazirani defeated Aryan Parekh 11-7,
7-11, 11-4, 11-6 and Tushar Shahani won against Utkarsh Baitha 9-11,
11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 11-6 after a hard fought match.

21st July 2014: M. Kruttigha outplayed Akanksha Rao to reach the
Girls’ Under-15 semi-finals of the NSCI Juniors & Doubles Open
Squash Championship 2014, held at the NSCI Sports Complex, Worli
today.
Kruttigha started well by winning the 1st set 11-9, but Akanksha
fought back and won the 2nd set 11-8. After the break, Kruttigha
attacked with all her power and defeated Akanksha in last two sets
11-7, 11-1 and reached the semis.
In Girls U-13 quarter-finals, Megha Bhatiya, JS Kritika and Ananya
Dabke reached the semi-final stage. Megha beat Darshana Vasudevan
11-4, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8; Kritika fought hard against Avani Nagar
4-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-6 and Ananya Dabke smashed Ananya Morey 11-6,
11-6, 11-7.
In Boys’ U-11 quarter-final stage, Shreyash Mehta thumped Mohit Bhat
11-5, 11-3, 11-1; Jay Vaknali outplayed Ansh Tripathi 11-4, 11-2,
6-11, 11-4; Ekam Singh beat Aryaman Jaisingh 11-9, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5
and Aksh Gupta sweat hard to beat Jeh Pandole 11-7, 4-11, 9-11,
11-9, 14-12.

Punjabi To Reach Quarter Finals
Mumbai 20th July 2014: Top seeder Shreyas Mehta (1) beat Sharan
Punjabi(9/16) by 2-0 in the round 3 of the Boys U-11 category on day
2 of the annual NSCI Juniors & Doubles Open Squash Championship,
held at the NSCI sports Complex, Worli.
In Boys U-11 category, NSCI club member and No.1 seed Shreyas Mehta
convincingly thrashed Shreyas Rao Katkoor (17/32) in round 2 by 2-0
(11-1, 11-3) and Sharan Punjabi (9/16) in round 3 by 2-0 (11-7,
11-7) to enter the quarterfinals with confidence. Shreyas at such a
young age is optimistic and ambitious about squash as a game and a
career.
In the Boys U-13 category, Yohan Poncha (9/16) beat Aman Punjabi in
round 2 and Arman Darukhanwala in round 3, proving to be a promising
player of the tournament.
In another match, Girls U-15 Round 1, a promising young girl Aariya
Patel beat Sukrita Panigrahi 2-0 (11-9, 11-2) to enter the next
round.
Five times Indian National squash championship winner, Ritwik
Bhattacharya was present at NSCI on day 2 giving tips to young
talent and motivating them to give their best and achieve great
success in this prestigious tournament.

Low seeder Rayhan Valiya (7/32) beat high seeder Dhruv Vazirani by
2-1 in the toughest match on day 1 of the the annual NSCI Juniors &
Doubles Open Squash Championship, organised by National Sports Club
of India in association with Squash Rackets Federation of India at
the NSCI sports Complex, Worli.
On day 1, Boys U-13, in round 2,
Rayhan Valiya, NSCI club member beat Dhruv Vazirani (11-9, 11-7,
11-9) in toughest and most interesting match of the day. Rayhan
Valiya is a player to watch out for in this tournament at NSCI. In
another match, in the same category, another promising player Rohan
Padhye (17/32) thrashed Aman Khullar to enter next round. Rohan
convincingly won the first 2 sets with no requirement of the 3rd
set being played.
In the qualifying round of Doubles
Open, Dr. Mukul Padhye & Deepesh Jadhav thrashed Ikram Shaikh &
Trushant Tambe (11-2, 11-5). They look aggressive and hopeful to win
the tournament.
The opening day of the prestigious
tournament was watched by squash players, enthusiasts and school
children, who cheered for their favorite players participating from
different states across Pan-India. 350 young boys and girls have
enrolled to play the juniors open and 150 men and women to play
doubles to showcase their talent in the prestigious tournament at
NSCI sports Complex with best of the facilities in the state.
