Meguid Wins All-Egyptian Final In Kuwait
#PSAWorldTour
Egypt's World No.30 Omar Abdel Meguid claimed his first PSA World Tour
title of 2014 after beating compatriot Mohamed Abouelghar, the World
No.49, 3-1 in the final of the 2014 Mohammed Yaquob Hajeyah PSA
Challenger 15 Tournament in South Surrah, Kuwait.
Meguid, the even't number one seed, enjoyed a
smooth journey to the final easily dispatching Kuwaiti hopes Anmar
Altamini and Yousif Nizar Khan, who pulled off one of the biggest upsets
of the week beating number six seed Danish Atlas Khan from Pakistan
3-0 in the opening round, before squeezing past Egyptian Andrew Wagih
Shoukry 3-2 in the semi-finals.
The 47-minute 11-6, 5-11, 13-11, 11-3 victory, his second win over
Abouelghar in the last month, sees Meguid build on his runner-up finish
at February's Oregon Open and lift his first tournament title on the PSA
World Tour circuit since August 2013, when he was triumphant in the Pro
Squash In Japan Challenger 10 event.
The 26-year-old will now travel to the prestigious Allam British Open in
confident spirits as he aims to progress through the qualification draw
and secure his berth in the main round of the PSA World Series
tournament.
"I'm happy I won because it is always difficult playing a talented and
excellent player like Mohamed," said
Meguid following his victory.
"I enjoyed the tournament very much. I've been here a few times before
and I'm just happy I managed to sneak a win in the end."
