RESULTS: PSA Challenger 5 British Virgin Islands Open,
Tortola, British Virgin Islands
Maiden Title For Miranda
Argentina's Gonzalo Miranda won the first PSA World Tour
title of his career when he beat Manoel Pereira in an
all-South American final of the British Virgin Islands Open
Squash Championship, the PSA Challenger 5 event in its
second year at Pasea Estate in Tortola in the British
Virgin Islands.
Top seed Miranda reached the final after dethroning defending
champion Christopher Binnie, the third seed from Jamaica, in
the semi-finals.
Unseeded Brazilian Manoel Pereira, ranked outside the world
top 200, made his breakthrough in the quarter-finals where he
defeated fourth-seeded Canadian Thomas Brinkman. A semi-final
win over Englishman Tom Pashley took the 28-year-old from Sao
Paulo into the first Tour final of his career.
But Miranda, the 23-year-old world No84 from La Plata, was on top
throughout the final - despatching Pereira 11-2, 11-2, 11-4 in 37
minutes to take the trophy.
