Local
hero Abdullah Al Muzayen fully justified his top billing in the
Martyr Fahad Al-Ahmad Squash Tournament in Kuwait when he beat
Egypt's No2 seed Andrew Wagih Shoukry in the final of the PSA
World Tour Challenger 10 event in its second year at the South
Surrah Ministries Complex in Hawalli.
The
25-year-old Kuwaiti number one dropped just one game on his way the
final - but kept a clean sheet in the climax as he dismissed Shoukry,
the world No52 from Cairo, 11-7, 11-8, 14-12 in 40 minutes.
The
triumph marks the 15th PSA Tour title of Al Muzayen's career.
Danish Dashes Zaman's Hopes in Kuwait
Danish Atlas Khan became
the only unseeded player to make the semi-finals of the Martyr Fahad
Al-Ahmad Squash Tournament when he upset fellow Pakistani Farhan
Zaman in the PSA World Tour Challenger 10 event in its second
year at the South Surrah Ministries Complex in Hawalli,
Kuwait.
But whilst the seedings suggested
an upset, the PSA world rankings predicted a close battle - and the
clash between the two Pakistanis from Peshawar, both sharing identical
rankings of 87, inevitably went the full distance.
It was after 60 minutes that
19-year-old Khan eased to a 9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 5-11, 11-3 win to set up a
bid for a place in the final against Andrew Wagih Shoukry.
The second-seeded Egyptian put
paid to an all-Pakistani semi-final by beating Khawaja Adil Maqbool
11-9, 11-8, 12-10.
There will be Egyptian interest
in the other semi-final where third seed Mazen Hesham Ga Sabry
takes on Kuwaiti favourite Abdullah Al Muzayen.
Kuwaitis Capitalise In
Hawalli
Top seed Abdullah Al Muzayen led a
trio of Kuwaitis through to the quarter-finals of the Martyr Fahad Al-Ahmad
Squash Tournament after a swift win in the opening round of the PSA
World Tour Challenger 10 squash event in its second year at the South
Surrah Ministries Complex in Hawalli, Kuwait.
World No33 Al Muzayen despatched Pakistani
qualifier Tayyab Aslam 11-3, 11-5, 11-6 in just 20 minutes and will now
face fellow countryman Ammar Altamimi for a place in the last four.
Altamimi, ranked outside the top 100,
defeated experienced Pakistani Farhan Mehboob 11-8, 10-12, 12-10, 11-5
in 50 minutes.
But Bader Al Hussaini is providing
surprise local interest in the quarter-finals after upsetting Pakistan's Syed
Ali Shah Bokhari 4-11, 11-8, 11-8, 7-11, 11-6 in 65 minutes.
The 29-year-old Kuwaiti qualifier now has
a tough battle on his hands against Mazen Hesham Ga Sabry, the No3 seed
from Egypt who ousted Pakistan qualifier Amaad Fareed 11-6, 11-7, 12-10.
