Charlton
Denies Corren Mackay Open Hat-Trick
England's
Eddie Charlton secured the third PSA World Tour title success of his
career when he upset Mike Corren for the second week in a row to claim
the Mackay Open squash title today in Queensland, Australia.
A week after
beating local hero Corren in the semi-finals of the Queensland Open, the
24-year-old from Nottingham again stunned the higher-ranked South Australian to
win the PSA Challenger 5 event at the Mackay Leisure Centre in
Mackay 11-9, 11-9, 11-6 in 46 minutes.
Charlton edged
the first two games before gaining a vital break in the third to wrap up the
final in the North Queensland city, denying 38-year-old Corren a hat-trick of
Mackay Open titles.
Charlton only
dropped one game throughout the tournament - whilst Corren was taken to five in
the semi-finals before overcoming Charlton's Nottingham club-mate Lewis
Walters 11-7, 6-11, 12-10, 3-11, 11-9 in 64 minutes to reach his 62nd Tour
final.
