Colombian
Miguel Angel Rodriguez added a further chapter in squash history when he
beat Robertino Pezzota in the final of the Isiven PSA Caracas Open
to become the first winner of a PSA World Tour title in Venezuela.
The top-seeded
Colombian number one reached the 29th final of his career - and his fourth in a
row in five weeks - when he overcame Argentina's Hernan D'Arcangelo in
straight games in the semi-finals of the PSA Challenger 5 event at the
Caracas Theater Club.
His opponent,
a newly-ranked qualifier from Argentina, made his breakthrough in the
quarter-finals where he defeated Matthew Serediak - the No3 seed from
Canada - in straight games.
Pezzota, a
29-year-old born in Rosario, opened his account against Rodriguez in impressive
style, taking the opening game against the favourite ranked more than 400 places
higher!
But Rodriguez
reclaimed the upper hand, closing out the match 10-12, 11-5, 11-9, 11-5 in 47
minutes to win his third Tour title this year, and the 21st of his career.
