Aamir Wins
Fourth COAS International Crown
Top seed
Aamir Atlas Khan defeated defending champion Nasir Iqbal in today's
final of the COAS International in Pakistan to win the PSA World Tour
Challenger 10 squash title at the Mushaf Squash Complex in
Islamabad for the fourth time.
Iqbal, the
18-year-old world No140 from Peshawar, had carried on where he left off last
year - upsetting seeds in both the quarter and semi-finals to reach the final
against expectation for the second year in a row.
But Atlas
Khan, the 21-year-old world No32 and highest-ranked player in Pakistan, was
too strong for the teenager - winning 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 in 42 minutes to repeat
his title triumphs of 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The success
marks the seventh PSA World Tour title of Khan's career.
Aamir Atlas
Khan & Nasir Iqbal In COAS Final
There were
mixed successes for the Atlas Khan family in today's semi-finals of the
COAS International in Pakistan when top seed Aamir Atlas Khan made
it through to the final of the PSA World Tour Challenger 10 squash event
at the Mushaf Squash Complex in Islamabad, but younger brother
Danish Atlas Khan failed to overcome teenager Nasir Iqbal.
Aamir,
champion in 2008, 2009 and 2010, reached his fourth final after beating Peshawar
compatriot Farhan Zaman, the fourth seed, 9-11, 13-11, 11-9, 11-9.
The win takes
the 21-year-old into his 13th PSA Tour final.
Nasir Iqbal
reproduced the same form which saw him win the 2011 title against expectations
when he took on third seed Danish Atlas Khan.
Iqbal, an
18-year-old also based in Peshawar, defeated his opponent ranked over 40 places
higher, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8 in 61 minutes to reach the second Tour final of his
career.
Champion Iqbal
Charges On In Islamabad
Teenage
outsider Nasir Iqbal remained on course to defend his title in the
COAS International in Pakistan when he upset second seed Farhan Mehboob
in straight games in today's quarter-finals of the PSA World Tour Challenger
10 squash event in its tenth year at the Mushaf Squash Complex in the
capital Islamabad.
The
18-year-old from Peshawar, the surprise winner of the 2011 title, took 50
minutes to overcome Mehboob, ranked more than 60 places higher, 11-7, 11-9,
11-5.
Iqbal, the
only unseeded player to make the last four, will now meet Danish Atlas Khan,
the 18-year-old No3 seed who defeated veteran left-hander Mansoor Zaman
11-5, 11-5, 11-6.
Danish's
brother Aamir Atlas Khan will contest the other, also all-Pakistan,
semi-final. The top seed - who is seeking his fourth title since 2008 - beat
Waqas Mehboob 11-9, 11-1, 11-5 while his opponent Farhan Zaman, the
No4 seed, recovered from a game down to overcome Muhammad Saqib Yousaf
4-11, 11-5, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7.
