Welshman Creed Marks Tour Breakthrough
RESULTS: PSA Challenger 5 McWil Wroclaw Open, Wroclaw, Poland
Peter Creed
became the first Welshman to win a PSA World Tour squash title
for more than three years when he beat England's Eddie Charlton
in the final of the PSA McWil Wroclaw Open in Poland.
It was
in the semi-finals of the inaugural PSA World Tour Challenger 5
event at Redeco in Wroclaw that the fourth seed from
Caerphilly made his breakthrough by ousting French favourite Yann
Perrin in straight games.
Now in
the third Tour title of his career, Creed then faced third seed
Charlton, the world No98 from Nottingham.
Ranked
14 places lower, Creed pulled out all the stops to overcome his British
rival, winning 11-7, 12-10, 11-8 in 34 minutes to make his mark as a
Welsh PSA Tour title winner.
The
success came only two weeks after Creed won his third successive Welsh
National title - but 43 months after distinguished Welshman David
Evans won the PSA Welsh Open crown in June 2008.
