Khan
Takes Final Tour Title Of 2011 In Pakistan
Aamir Atlas Khan
collected the final PSA World Tour title of the year at the
Pakistan Circuit No4 squash event today in Lahore - but the
top seed was taken the full distance before overcoming unseeded fellow
Pakistani Farhan Zaman in the climax of the PSA Challenger 10
championship at the Punjab Squash Complex.
While
Khan took just 18 minutes to reach the final after despatching Nasir
Iqbal 11-6, 11-6, 11-0, 18-year-old Zaman needed 40 minutes to see
off qualifier Muhammad Saqib Yousaf in five games in the other
semi-final, to reach his second Tour final in a row.
And
the 21-year-old favourite from Peshawar looked on course for a
straightforward victory when he took a two-game lead in the final.
But,
showing no signs of his battle 24 hours earlier, Zaman fought back to
draw level and force the match into a fifth game decider.
Khan
dug deep and used his greater experience to the full to retake the
advantage before closing out the match 11-4, 11-8, 8-11, 8-11, 11-8 in
52 minutes.
The
win marks the sixth PSA Tour title of Khan's career.
Lone
Seed Aamir Atlas Makes Pakistan Semis
After
two days of shocks in the Pakistan Circuit No4 squash event in
Lahore, favourite Aamir Atlas Khan will be the only seed to
feature in the semi-final line-up of the PSA World Tour Challenger 10
championship at the Punjab Squash Complex.
The
21-year-old top seed from Peshawar despatched qualifier Aqib Hanif
11-5, 11-9, 11-5 in just 30 minutes to set up a semi-final clash with
Nasir Iqbal, a 17-year-old also from Peshawar who defeated Waqas
Mehboob 11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 11-2.
It was
in the other half of the draw that today's biggest quarter-final upset
took place when unseeded 18-year-old Farhan Zaman upset his
31-year-old cousin Mansoor Zaman, the No3 seed, 11-5, 15-13,
9-11, 11-6 in 44 minutes.
Zaman
junior will now face Muhammad Saqib Yousaf, a 20-year-old
qualifier from Lahore who followed his Christmas Day upset over second
seed Danish Atlas Khan by beating higher-ranked compatriot
Waqar Mehboob 10-12, 11-2, 11-5, 11-5.
