Butt Wins
Pakistan Circuit Prize In Lahore
Yasir Butt
brought the giant-killing run of Mohammad Shahnawaz to an end in the
final of the 1st Prime Minister FMC International Pakistan Circuit No2 to
win the PSA World Tour Challenger 10 title at the PSA Squash Complex
in Lahore, Pakistan.
Shahnawaz, a
23-year-old from Lahore, was making his return to the PSA Tour after a
three-year layoff - and reached the final after beating the third seed and top
seed Farhan Mehboob.
But it was a
match too far for the world No 325 in his first Tour final.
Fourth seed
Butt, also from Lahore, made his breakthrough in the semi-finals where he ousted
experience compatriot Mansoor Zaman, a former world No11.
And the
22-year-old world No 133 continued his winning ways by despatching Shahnawaz
11-9, 11-8, 11-3 in 34 minutes to win the first PSA Tour title of his career in
his eighth final appearance.
Butt received
his trophy from Pakistan squash legend Jansher Khan, the record
eight-time world champion who was attending the event in his capacity of Advisor
to the President of the Pakistan Squash Federation.
Shahnawaz
Shakes Off Mehboob In Lahore
Just three
months after returning to the PSA World Tour after a three-year layoff,
unseeded Pakistani Mohammad Shahnawaz toppled top-seeded compatriot
Farhan Mehboob in today's semi-finals of the 1st Prime Minister FMC
International Pakistan Circuit No2 to reach the final of the Challenger
10 squash event at the PSA Squash Complex in Lahore, Pakistan.
Shahnawaz, a
23-year-old from Lahore, ranked 325 in the world, fought back from a game down
to overcome world No31 Mehboob 3-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9 in 42 minutes to celebrate
his maiden appearance in a Tour final.
And it will be
an all-Lahore climax in which Shahnawaz lines up against fourth seed Yasir
Butt.
Butt, ranked
133 in the world, also recovered from losing the first game to beat left-hander
Mansoor Zaman, a former world No11 from Peshawar, 7-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-9
in just 38 minutes.
Butt, who has
yet to win a PSA title, is celebrating his third successive Tour final and the
eighth of his career.
