Tireless Razik
Scores In Sudbury
Despite
enduring matches in the previous two rounds both of which lasted more than 100
minutes, Canadian number one Shahier Razik was able to find another 91
minutes to wear down Egypt's Omar Abdel Aziz in the final of the
Sudbury Northern Ontario Championship in the Canadian province of Ontario.
It was after
beating Malaysia's Muhd Asyraf Azan in a 108-minute quarter-final of the
PSA World Tour Challenger 15 squash event at Sudbury YMCA in
Sudbury that second seed Razik rallied to a semi-final win in 102 minutes
over a second Malaysian Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan, the fourth seed.
Third seed
Aziz took the opening game in the final, but the tireless 33-year-old from
Toronto battled back to clinch the match 7-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-2 - and notch up
the 21st Tour title of his career.
Razik Battles
On To Sudbury Final
Canadian
number one Shahier Razik survived his second 100-minute marathon in 24
hours in the Sudbury Northern Ontario Championship to reach the final of
the PSA World Tour Challenger 15 squash event at Sudbury YMCA in
Sudbury in the Canadian province of Ontario.
After beating
Malaysia's Muhd Asyraf Azan in a 108-minute quarter-final, Razik rallied
to a 12-10, 10-12, 11-9, 11-2 semi-final win in 102 minutes over fourth seed
Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan, also a Malaysian.
Luckily for
the 33-year-old from Toronto, Adnan tired in the fourth to prevent the match
going into a decider.
The win takes
Razik, the world No33, into his 35th PSA Tour final.
The second
seed will face Egypt's Omar Abdel Aziz after the third seed from Egypt
upset top-seeded Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez 8-11, 11-4, 11-4, 11-8
in 70 minutes.
The unexpected
victory takes the 27-year-old world No44 from Cairo into the ninth Tour final of
his career.
Razik Prevails
In Second Successive Sudbury Marathon
Exactly a year
after playing his last 100-minute-plus match on the Tour, Shahier Razik
prevailed in a 108-minute marathon in the Sudbury Northern Ontario
Championship to reach the semi-finals of the PSA World Tour Challenger 15
squash event at Sudbury YMCA in Sudbury in the Canadian province
of Ontario.
It was in the
event's semi-finals in April 2010 that the 33-year-old from Toronto went down to
compatriot Shawn Delierre in 140 minutes!
This time,
Razik took a two-game lead against Muhd Asyraf Azan before having to
resist a fight-back by the Malaysian which forced the match into a fifth game.
But the
Canadian, a veteran of at least fifteen 100-minute-plus matches since 2005, had
the upper hand in the decider to win 11-1, 13-11, 11-13, 9-11, 11-3.
Razik will now
face another Malaysian - fourth seed Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan who needed only
43 minutes to get the better of experienced Mexican Eric Galvez 11-9,
11-9, 11-7.
Favourite
Miguel Angel Rodriguez denied the crowd Canadian interest in the other
semi-final by beating Calgary-born qualifier Andrew Schnell 11-3, 9-11,
11-6, 11-4.
The Colombian
will take on Egypt's third seed Omar Abdel Aziz.
Schnell &
Razik Lead Home Hopes In Ontario
Shahier Razik
and Andrew Schnell lead home hopes through to the last eight of the
Sudbury Northern Ontario Championship, the PSA World Tour Challenger 15
squash event in its second year at Sudbury YMCA in Sudbury in the
Canadian province of Ontario.
Calgary-born
qualifier Schnell defeated local wild card player Michael McCue 11-3,
11-5, 11-4. The 19-year-old will now face top seed Miguel Angel Rodriguez,
the world No25 from Colombia who beat England's Eddie Charlton 11-5,
11-9, 11-9.
A late
withdrawal of last year's runner-up Shawn Delierre led fellow Canadian
Shahier Razik to be paired up with 'lucky loser' Mohammad Reza Sadeghpour.
Second seed
Razik needed only 27 minutes to overcome the Iranian 11-6, 11-6, 11-5. The world
No33 from Toronto will now take on unseeded Malaysian Muhd Asyraf Azan,
who beat Canadian David Phillips 11-6, 11-6, 6-11, 12-10.
