Camilleri Conquers Cardwell In Melbourne

Australian Lisa Camilleri says she is ready for her next challenge after defeating fellow countrywoman Sarah Cardwell in the final of the Women's Westerfolds JDP Open, a WISPA World Tour 4 squash event at the Westerfolds Sports Centre in Melbourne.

The 28-year-old from Queensland stamped her authority on the final with an 11-1, 11-3, 11-7 win to take out her 17th title on the WISPA tour and her second in a fortnight.

Top seed Camilleri, who is now based at the Westerfolds club, was pushed hard in Saturday's semi-final win over fourth seed Maggy Marshall, but was always in charge against Cardwell, the third seed.

"I played a lot better today than yesterday," Camilleri said. "I knew I just had to focus from the start.

"It's my home club so it was hard to get it into my head that it was a professional tournament and not just a game at club level.

"So I was a lot more focused today - I volleyed well and kept the pressure on her."

Camilleri now heads to Hong Kong and India for two tournaments and said she was keen to play against some higher-ranked women.

Ironically she has been drawn to play Cardwell in the first round of the Hong Kong tournament, ahead of a probable semi-final against world number 16 Donna Urquhart.

"It will be good to play girls who are ranked higher than me," she said.

"I've been playing a lot of girls ranked in the 50s and 60s, so to player higher ranked girls will be a good test."
