Meguid Delivers In Delft

Egypt's Omar Abdel Meguid survived a surprise Kean Open final in the Netherlands to win the $4,000 PSA World Tour title at Delft Squash Club in the Dutch city of Delft.

The third seed made his breakthrough in the semi-finals where he upset top-seeded Dutchman Dylan Bennett, the defending champion, in four games.

But his opponent had a giant-killing run through to the final: Unseeded Andre Haschker made his breakthrough in the opening round where he defeated Lukas Jelinek, the fourth seed from the Czech Republic, in straight games.

Further victories over the sixth seed and the No8 seed took the German outsider through to his first final appearance on the PSA Tour for more than four years.

But, after two first close games, the 22-year-old from Giza ran away with the match to take the title 11-5, 11-5, 11-8.

"Next year I'll be back and defend my title," said Meguid as he received his trophy.

The victory marks the Egyptian's fourth Tour title triumph in five finals.
