Perrin Powers To First Tour Title In Iran
France's top seed Yann
Perrin fought off determined opposition in the Kish Persian Gulf Cup
in Iran to win his first PSA World Tour at the $6,000 championship
in its second year at the Kish Olympic Squash Centre at Kish Island.
The 24-year-old from
Aix-en-Provence was stretched to the limit in the semi-finals where he had to
fight back from two games down to beat rising Egyptian star Amr Khaled
Khalifa, the 17-year-old fourth seed, 10-12, 10-12, 11-8, 11-3, 14-12 in 68
minutes.
Perrin's opponent in the
final was also an Egyptian, the fifth-seeded Omar Abdel Meguid who upset
both Kamran Khan, the No3 seed from Malaysia, and Eddie Charlton,
the second seed from England, to earn his place in the climax.
Meguid, winner of the St
Petersburg Open in December, recovered from a game down to win the second,
then take Perrin to a tie-break in the third.
But it was the Frenchman
who ultimately prevailed, winning 11-6, 4-11, 16-14, 11-7 to secure his maiden
PSA title in his third final.
