Serme & Tomlinson Claim French Junior Open Titles
While England's Millie Tomlinson was the
anticipated winner of the women's title, Lucas Serme provided unexpected
domestic men's U19 success for the second year in a row in the French Junior
Open Squash Championships, one of the leading events on the European
Squash Federation Junior Circuit staged in Lille.
Third seed Serme made his breakthrough in the
semi-finals where he ousted second-seeded Englishman Robert Downer in
four games.
The 18-year-old from Creteil face top seed
Rudi Rohrmuller in the final, and recovered from a game down to beat the
German 8-11, 13-11, 12-10, 11-5 to win his first ESF circuit title.
Millie Tomlinson reached the women's final after
beating fellow countrywomen in the three previous rounds. The 17-year-old
Derbyshire faced seventh seed Kanzy Emad El-Defrawy, the
15-year-old Egyptian who upset England's No2 seed Emily Whitlock
in the quarter-finals.
It was a close-fought encounter, but Tomlinson
eventually emerged victorious after a 12-10, 10-12, 11-8, 11-9 scoreline to
claim her third ESF U19 title since November.
