Deadly Delasaux Ditches All-Comers Again In BC Open

Deadly Delasaux Ditches All-Comers Again In BC Open

England's Laurence Delasaux extended his remarkable run on the PSA World Squash Tour in Canada when he beat Siddharth Suchde in the final of the $6,000 BC Open at Sport Central in Richmond, BC, to claim his third Tour title in five weeks as a qualifier!

The 24-year-old from Hull, ranked 149 in the world, made his breakthrough in the first round where he despatched in-form second-seeded Australian Mike Corren in straight games.

Successive wins over Welshman Jethro Binns and fourth-seeded compatriot Neil Hitchens took the Yorkshireman into the final - his fifth as a qualifier since finishing as runner-up in the Scandinavian Open in Sweden in June.

But deadly Delasaux was too strong for Suchde, the third seed from India.  After surviving a tie-break first game, the English underdog went on to win 12-10, 11-3, 11-1 in 52 minutes.

The European Junior champion in 2004, Delasaux first joined the PSA the following year - but, less than two years later, grew tired of touring and gave up his membership.

However, the sport's appeal took over again and the young Englishman rejoined the PSA in June this year.  Starting with a ranking of 317, Delasaux began a sensational Tour run which included final berths in all but one of the six events he entered - and title triumphs in the Niagara Classic, the Saskatoon Boast Open, and now the BC Open - all in Canada.
