Rodriguez Extends Unbeaten Run In Joinville Final

Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez extended his unbeaten run in PSA World Tour finals to two years when he beat home hero Rafael F Alarcon in the climax of the inaugural Tour de Las Americas Aberto Internacional de Joinville de Squash, the $10,000 1-star event at Academia One Squash & Fitness in Joinville, Santa Catarina, in Brazil.

But the 23-year-old top seed from Bogota only reached the final after fighting back from two games down against Yann Perrin in the semi-finals, ultimately beating the fourth-seeded Frenchman in five games.

Meanwhile, Brazilian Rafael F Alarcon, the No2 seed, coasted to a straight games win over US opponent Gilly Lane in the other semi.

But world No27 Rodriguez, now in the 18th PSA Tour final of his career, was keen to extend his winning run in finals since November 2007 - and did so in style, beating Alarcon 11-9, 11-5, 11-7.

The triumph marked his sixth successive final success, and the 11th PSA crown of his career since November 2005.

Pashley & Pereira Power Through In Brazil

Brazilian qualifier Manoel Pereira delighted the local crowd at the "Tour de Las Americas" Aberto Internacional De Joinville De Squash when he ousted No7 seed Karim AGA Samy in the opening round of the inaugural $10,000 PSA World Tour event at Academia One Squash & Fitness in Joinville, Santa Catarina, in Brazil.

The 24-year-old, ranked 246 in the world, twice stemmed fight backs by his Egyptian opponent before beating Samy, the world No106, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-2.

England's Tom Pashley also claimed an unexpected place in the last eight.  The unseeded 21-year-old from Sussex recovered from a game down to upset France's No8 seed Johan Bouquet 9-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-5.
