Koukal Captures Imet Open
Crown
Czech
squash star Jan Koukal captured the eighth PSA Tour title of his
career when he beat fellow countryman Martin Stepan in the final of the
Imet Open, the first Tour event to be staged in Slovakia.
Top
seed Koukal, the world No42 from Prague, reached the final of the Satellite
event at Imet Squash Club in Bratislava after a straight games
semi-final victory over compatriot Lukas Jelinek, the third seed.
Stepan, the fourth seed from Brno, claimed his unexpected place in the climax
after his semi-final opponent Mazen Gamal, the 14th seed from Egypt,
retired after winning the fourth game.
But
25-year-old Koukal affirmed his home-land superiority when he beat Stepan 11-7,
11-9, 11-9 in the final to secure his first Tour title since October last year.
