Alexander & Chinappa Celebrate KL Successes

Australian Zac Alexander and India’s Joshna Chinappa both celebrated their second title successes in the Malaysian capital after winning the NSC Super Squash Satellite No4 trophies at the Bukit Jalil National Squash Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Third seed Alexander made his breakthrough in the semi-finals of the $6,000 men's PSA Tour event when he beat local hero Ivan Yuen, the No7 seed who knocked out favourite Mike Corren in the previous round.

In the final, the 19-year-old from Brisbane faced fourth seed Stephane Galifi, the Frenchman who won last week's No3 event in KL.  But it was Alexander's day as the Australian teenager battled for 34 minutes to claim his 11-8, 3-11, 11-9, 12-10 victory - and the second PSA Tour title of his career.

It was the second KL triumph in seven days for Joshna Chinappa in the women's $8,000 WISPA World Tour event.  The 22-year-old top seed from Chennai faced surprise opponent Low Wee Wern in the final.

The third seed from Malaysia had beaten Melody Francis in the earlier round - the unseeded Australian having ousted second seed Lim Yoke Wah in the first round.

But Chinappa, facing her fourth successive Malaysian in the draw, was too strong for her 18-year-old opponent - winning 11-8, 11-7, 11-6 in 22 minutes to claim her second Tour title.
