Perry &
Rohrmuller Win Belgian Junior Open Titles In
Brussels
Germany's Rudi Rohrmuller and England's
Sarah-Jane Perry claimed the U19 titles in the 2008 Dunlop Belgian Junior
Open Squash Championships after contrasting successes in the finals of the
European Squash Federation Junior Circuit event in the Belgium
capital
Brussels.
Rohrmuller,
third seed in the men's event, made his breakthrough in the semi-finals, beating
Frenchman Lucas Serme, the No2 seed.
The
17-year-old from
Rosenheim
faced top seed Sam van Brusselen in the final - and beat the 18-year-old
local hero 11-7, 11-5, 11-8 to earn his maiden ESF Junior Circuit U19 title.
Runner-up
in the women's event 12 months ago, Sarah-Jane Perry was keen to go one better
this year. Seeded two, the 18-year-old from Kenilworth took five games to
overcome third-seeded opponent Olivia Blatchford, from the
USA, in
the semis.
Her final
opponent Emilie Lamilongo made it to the climax after a series of
impressive upsets - the 12th seed from
France's
most notable being her 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-4 dismissal of English
favourite Kimberley Hay in the other semi.
The final
also went the full distance - but Perry held her nerve to win 12-10, 8-11,
14-12, 11-13, 11-5 and add the Belgian title to the Nordic Junior U19
Open crown she won two months ago.
