Ghosal Grabs
Ornano Title
Rising Indian squash star Saurav Ghosal
claimed the biggest title of his career when he won the Ornano International
Open trophy after beating third seed
Davide Bianchetti
in the final of the inaugural $15,000 PSA
Tour event in Bordeaux, France.
It was the Kolkata-born 22-year-old's third successive upset in the event. The
sixth seed made his breakthrough in the quarter-finals when he toppled top seed
Renan Lavigne in four games - dashing hopes of local success in the
event.
In the semi-finals, Ghosal overcame Egyptian Amr Swelim, the fifth seed,
in five games.
Celebrating his sixth appearance in a PSA Tour final, the three-time Indian
national champion faced third seed Bianchetti, the world No30 from Italy and a
veteran of 18 final appearances.
The pair last met in June 2006 - but this time Ghosal was more prepared for his
more experienced opponent, winning 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9 to secure the fourth -
and biggest - PSA Tour title of his life.

Battles Into Bordeaux Final
Indian national
champion Saurav Ghosal scored his second successive upset in the
Ornano International Open to reach the final of the inaugural $15,000 PSA
Tour event in Bordeaux, France.
The Kolkata-born 22-year-old made his breakthrough in the quarter-finals when he
toppled top seed Renan Lavigne in four games - dashing hopes of local
success in the event
In the semi-finals, sixth seed Ghosal faced Egyptian Amr Swelim, the
fifth seed. The marathon encounter took 74 minutes - with underdog Ghosal
ultimately surviving a fifth game tie-break to win 10-12, 11-2, 11-2, 3-11,
14-12
Celebrating his sixth appearance in a PSA Tour final, Ghosal takes on Italian
Davide Bianchetti, the third seed who outplayed surprise opponent Bradley
Hindle, the eighth seed from Australia, 11-8, 11-9, 11-4 in the other
semi-final
Bianchetti, the world No30 from Brescia, is marking his 18th Tour final
appearance - and will be meeting his Indian opponent for the first time for more
than two years.
Seeds Survive In Bordeaux
All eight seeds survived
the first round of the Ornano International Open to reach the
quarter-finals of the inaugural $15,000 PSA Tour event in Bordeaux,
France.
But local hero Renan Lavigne, the top seed from Marseille, was fully
stretched by fellow Frenchman compatriot Mathieu Castagnet before beating
the unseeded 21-year-old 11-5, 5-11, 12-10, 10-12, 11-4 in 106 minutes.
Lavigne, 33, is due to meet Joey Barrington in Saturday's final. By
contrast, the second seed from England only needed 31 minutes to see off South
African qualifier Gary Wheadon 11-3, 11-5, 11-1.
Another all-French first round clash saw Julien Balbo beat Yann Perrin
11-8, 11-5, 11-6. The fourth seed from Chambery now faces Egypt's fifth seed
Amr Swelim
for a place in the semi-finals.
