Ryder
Rallies To
Tenerife Title
England's
third seed Chris Ryder followed his four-game upset over Egypt's second
seed Amr Mansi in the semi-finals of the OHL Canary Islands Open
to defeat a further Egyptian, top seed Mohd Ali Anwar Reda, in the final
to win the PSA Tour event at the Centro Insular de Squash de Tenerife
in Santa Cruz on the Spanish island of Tenerife.
In both cases, the 27-year-old from Wolverhampton came from behind - in the
final losing the first game in a tense tie-break before fighting back to dismiss
18-year-old Reda 10-11 (3-5), 11-7, 11-10 (3-1), 11-7.
Ryder, the
World
University champion who originally hails from Aylesbury, was celebrating his 12th
appearance in a PSA Tour event final - and now his third title triumph.
Swelim
Swats Scott In
Santa Cruz
Amr Swelim
extended the Egyptian interest in the semi-finals of the OHL Canary Islands
Open to three when he upset Australian Scott Arnold in a five-game
quarter-final of the PSA Tour event at the Centro Insular de Squash de
Tenerife in
Santa Cruz
on the
Spanish
island of
Tenerife.
The
23-year-old fifth seed from Cairo came back from 1/2 down to beat fourth seed
Arnold 11-7, 7-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-10 (2-0) in 93 minutes.
Swelim will now face top seed Mohd Ali Anwar Reda in an all-Egyptian
semi-final.
Chris Ryder
will be hoping to stop an Egyptian takeover when he meets second seed Amr
Mansi in the other semi. The third-seeded Englishman from Wolverhampton
beat France's No7 seed Julien Balbo 7-11, 11-4, 11-10 (2-0), 11-7, while
Mansi despatched England's Jonathan Harford 5-11, 11-8, 10-11 (1-3),
11-3, 11-0.

qualifier Darren Lewis despatched eighth seed Fabian Kalaitzis in
the first round of the OHL Canary Islands Squash Open in the only upset
on the opening day of main draw action in the

on the
Spanish
island of
Tenerife.
The
27-year-old from Leicester beat the Greek number one 11-10 (3-1), 11-8, 11-6,
