Arnold Fights Back To Claim Perth Title

Australia's Scott Arnold fought back from match ball down to beat top-seeded Dutchman Dylan Bennett in five games in the final of the City of Joondalup Squash Open at Mullaloo Squash Centre in Perth, Western Australia.

The 21-year-old from Brisbane was trailing by two games to love - and was on the brink of defeat - before fighting back to win 5-11, 8-11, 11-10 (3-1), 11-7, 11-8 in 61 minutes.

The win gives Arnold his second PSA Tour title, adding to the Hilton Open he won in Perth this time last year.

Originally from Sydney, Arnold is now based in Brisbane where he trains with the Australian Institute of Sport squash programme.

He beat AIS training partner Ryan Cuskelly in the semi-finals while Bennett accounted for South Australia’s Luke Margan.

Top seed Amelia Pittock won her second WISPA World Tour title when she beat Queensland’s Peta Hughes in the women’s final.

The 23-year-old from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria won 9-3, 9-2, 9-7 to secure her first Tour success since winning the Queensland Open in August 2003.

Arnold Powers Into Perth Final

Australia's sixth seed Scott Arnold earned himself a surprise place in the men's final of the City of Joondalup Squash Open after beating compatriot Ryan Cuskelly in the semi-finals of the PSA Tour event at Mullaloo Squash Centre in Perth, Western Australia.

The 21-year-old from Brisbane made his breakthrough in the previous round where he ousted New Zealand's second seed Kashif Shuja in five games.

Cuskelly also caused an upset in the quarter-finals when he beat third seed Aaron Frankcomb in a 114-minute marathon.

But it was a fresher Arnold who beat the unseeded Cuskelly 11-5, 11-9, 11-6 in 40 minutes to make his sixth Tour final.

Arnold will face top-seeded Dutchman Dylan Bennett, who needed just 27 minutes to overcome Australia's No8 seed Luke Margan 11-5, 11-4, 11-2.

The final of the women's WISPA World Tour event will feature the two top seeds from Australia. Favourite Amelia Pittock beat fourth-seeded compatriot Lisa Camilleri 9-6, 9-5, 7-9, 9-5 while second seed Peta Hughes had to fight back from two games down to beat fellow Australian Donna Urquhart, the No3 seed, 0-9, 2-9, 9-4, 9-7, 9-3.

White & Cuskelly In Perth Breakthroughs
Unseeded local players Cameron White and Ryan Cuskelly claimed unexpected places in the quarter-finals of the City of Joondalup Squash Open after seeding upsets in the first round of the PSA Tour event at Mullaloo Squash Centre in Perth, Western Australia.

White took out fourth-seeded fellow Australian Paul Davis 11-2, 11-2, 11-10 (5-3) while Cuskelly beat New Zealand's No7 seed Martin Knight 11-4, 11-6, 11-10 (3-1).

Top-seeded Dutchman Dylan Bennett is on course to meet second seed Kashif Shuja in the final after beating Australian qualifier Zac Alexander 11-9, 11-7, 11-3.

Quarter-final line-up:
[1] Dylan Bennett (NED) v [5] Steve Finitsis (AUS)
Cameron White (AUS) v [8] Luke Margan (AUS)
Ryan Cuskelly (AUS) v [3] Aaron Frankcomb (AUS)
