Yasser Takes The Master In Atlanta Final

It was the first time that Yasser El Halaby had faced his illustrious Egyptian compatriot Omar Elborolossy, a former world No14 - but the 22-year-old underdog was ruthless in his straight games victory over his higher-seeded opponent as he lifted the Atlanta Squash Open title for the first time at the Concourse Athletic Club in Atlanta in the US state of Georgia.

El Halaby, from Cairo, is clearly at home on US courts where the 2006 Princeton graduate last year became the only four-time winner of the men's national intercollegiate squash championship.

Seeded eight, El Halaby reached the final after first upsetting England's No2 seed Chris Simpson, then third-seeded Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez

In the final, he chopped 31-year-old fifth seed Elborolossy 11-3, 11-6, 11-7 in 40 minutes to win the second PSA Tour title of his career.

Atlanta Open Hails Surprise All-Egyptian Final

Fifth seed Omar Elborolossy and No8 seed Yasser El Halaby will contest a surprise all-Egyptian final of the Atlanta Squash Open at the Concourse Athletic Club in Atlanta in the US state of Georgia.

Elborolossy, the former world No14 making a comeback after an 18-month break from the PSA Tour, dismissed Colombian Bernardo Samper, the No6 seed, 11-7, 11-10 (3-1), 11-6 to secure his 19th appearance in a Tour final.

El Halaby reached the climax after upsetting another Colombian, third seed Miguel Angel Rodriguez. The 22-year-old - nine years younger than his final opponent - beat Rodriguez 11-9, 11-5, 11-8 to earn his fifth place in a PSA final.

Seeds Suffer In Atlanta

Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez was the only top seed to survive the quarter-finals of the Atlanta Squash Open at the Concourse Athletic Club in Atlanta in the US state of Georgia.

The third seed beat Canada's No7 seed Robin Clarke 11-10 (2-0), 11-7, 11-4 and will now face Egypt's Yasser El Halaby in the semis after the eighth seed upset England's No2 seed Chris Simpson 11-9, 11-5, 6-11, 11-8.

There will be surprise Colombian interest in the other semi-final after sixth seed Bernardo Samper upset Mexico's No4 seed Jorge Isaac Baltazar Ferreira 11-8, 11-9, 11-8.

Samper would have expected to face top seed Eric Galvez for a place in the final, but the Mexican favourite was forced to retire injured after three games - allowing Egypt's fifth seed Omar Elborolossy to prevail after a 4-11, 11-3, 11-6 ret. scoreline.
