FIRST & SECOND
ROUND:
Krajcsak Curtails Koukal's Czech Home Run
Jan Koukal's remarkable home run was brought to an end in the
quarter-finals of the Lahudky Palma Czech Squash Open when the Czech number
one went down in straight games to Hungarian Mark Krajcsak in the PSA Tour
event at the SportNovni Areal in the Czech Republic capital Prague.
The 23-year-old from Prague won the first Tour event in his home town in
February 2004, clinching the Czech Open crown as fourth seed. After winning
five further PSA titles in the city - including the Czech Classic and Prague
Open, with status ranging from qualifier to top seed - Koukal was poised to
pick up his 30th successive 'home' match win against the third-seeded
Hungarian.
But Krajcsak was too strong for the fifth-seeded local hero as Koukal
crashed out 11-7, 11-5, 11-5.
The 23-year-old from Budapest now faces Daryl Selby, the top seed from
England who defeated Egypt's No6 seed Amr Swelim 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 10-11
(0-2), 11-4.
The other semi-final will see USA's second seed Julian Illingworth face
unseeded Australian Tony James. Illingworth despatched England's Alex Stait
11-10 (5-3), 11-3, 11-9, while James - runner-up in last week's Mega Italia
Open in Brescia - beat compatriot Bradley Hindle 5-11, 8-11, 11-4, 11-10
(3-1), 11-9.

Final:
Selby Celebrates Czech Success
Englishman Daryl Selby extended his 100% record in PSA Tour finals this year
when he secured the Lahudky Palma Czech Squash Open title after beating US
champion Julian Illingworth in the climax of the 1-star event at the
SportNovni Areal in the Czech Republic capital Prague.
The top seed from Essex dominated play in the first two games - but second
seed Illingworth struck back in the third and forged a 5-0 lead. Selby
recovered to level the score at 9-9 before the 23-year-old from Portland, in
his maiden PSA Tour final, moved ahead to serve with game-ball 10-9.
Selby saved it with a cross court that hit the nick at the back of the court
- then two rallies later clinched his first match-ball to secure an 11-5,
11-5, 11-10 (2-0) victory after 47 minutes.
The success marked 24-year-old Selby's third PSA title of the year - after
winning the Bankers Hall Club Open in Canada in January and the Norwegian
Open in February - and the fourth of his career.
SEMI-FINALS:
Top Seeds To Contest Czech Open
Final
The top two seeds Daryl Selby and Julian Illingworth will contest the final
of the Lahudky Palma Czech Squash Open after victories in the semi-finals of
the PSA Tour event at the SportNovni Areal in the Czech Republic capital
Prague.
Selby, the favourite from England, battled for exactly one hour - and
survived two tie-break games - to overcome Hungary's No3 seed Mark Krajcsak
11-7, 11-10 (3-1), 11-10 (3-1).
With two PSA Tour titles to his name already this year, the 24-year-old from
Essex is celebrating his fifth appearance in a Tour final.
Second seed Julian Illingworth ended the run of Tony James when he beat the
unseeded Australian 11-4, 11-10 (2-0), 11-8 in 45 minutes.
Now in his maiden PSA Tour final, the 23-year-old from Portland is bidding
to become the first US player to win a PSA Tour title since 1996!
