Razik Provides First Home Winner For Comfort Inn Open
Shahier Razik has become the first home winner of the Comfort Inn Evergreen Squash Open in the three years that the PSA Tour event has been staged in Vancouver , Canada .

In the 76-minute final watched by a capacity crowd at the Evergreen Squash Cub, the 29-year-old second seed from Toronto fought back from a game down to beat third seed Renan Lavigne, the defending champion from France, 8-11, 11-2, 11-7, 11-5.

The success marks Razik's 14th PSA Tour title triumph - and his third on home soil.

It took two five-game semi-finals marathons to produce the finalists for the Comfort Inn Evergreen Squash Open, the $20,000 PSA Tour event in Vancouver, Canada.

Third seed Renan Lavigne, the defending champion from France, came from two games down to beat England's Bradley Ball, the No7 seed, 7-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9 in 100 minutes.

The 32-year-old from Marseille is celebrating his 12th appearance in a PSA final.


Canada's Shahier Razik delighted the local crowd by fighting his way through to the final. The 29-year-old second seed from Toronto needed 65 minutes to overcome England's fifth seed Jonathan Kemp 7-11, 11-6, 11-2, 9-11, 11-9.

The world No26's success takes him into his 21st PSA final.

Kemp Captures Comfort Inn Semi
England's Jonathan Kemp produced the only upset of the day in the quarter-finals of the Comfort Inn Evergreen Squash Open when he defeated fellow countryman Alister Walker, the fourth seed, to reach the semi-finals of the $20,000 PSA Tour event in Vancouver, Canada.

The 25-year-old fifth seed from Shropshire, ranked 30 in the world, beat Walker 11-6, 11-4, 9-11, 11-4 to vindicate the latest PSA world rankings - produced after the seedings were finalised - in which Kemp has leapt ahead of his opponent.

Kemp will now face Shahier Razik, the second seed from Canada who beat No6 seed Eric Galvez after the Mexican retired injured after a few points into the third game.

The standout game of the day saw France's Renan Lavigne and Czech qualifier Jan Koukal battle for 94 minutes before the third-seeded Frenchman emerged triumphant in an 11-6, 7-11, 11-10 (2-0), 7-11, 11-10 (2-0) scoreline.

Lavigne meets No7 seed Bradley Ball after the Englishman stopped Canada's Matthew Giuffre - the shock first round victor over top seed Joey Barrington - in 56 minutes with the score standing at 9-11, 11-1, 11-4, 11-10 (2-0).

Giuffre Jettisons Joey In Vancouver Upset
In a major upset in the opening round of the Comfort Inn Evergreen Squash Open, unseeded local hero Matthew Giuffre took out top seed Joey Barrington in the $20,000 PSA Tour event in Vancouver, Canada.

Giuffre, a member of Canada’s National Squash team and a resident of Edmonton in Alberta, provided the enthusiastic gallery with a real treat. In a match lasting 80 minutes, the 24-year-old beat Englishman Barrington, beaten finalist last year, 5-11, 11-7, 11-9, 4-11, 11-5.

The Canadian will now face another English opponent Bradley Ball, the No7 seed who despatched Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez 11-6, 11-2, 11-9 in 35 minutes.

In another upset in the 2-star championship, Czech qualifier Jan Koukal beat Egypt's No8 seed Omar Mosaad, winner of the British Junior U19 Open crown at the beginning of the month, 11-4, 11-9, 11-10 (3-1). The 23-year-old from Prague now meets France's third seed Renan Lavigne, a winner in 70 minutes over German qualifier Simon Rosner.
