Fantastic Ferreira Wins In Winnipeg
Mexico's Jorge Isaac Baltazar Ferreira continued his spectacular run on the PSA Tour since rejoining the international circuit in March when he lifted the title at the Bieber Securities Fall Squash Classic in Winnipeg.
The 24-year-old from Mexico City picked up his first PSA Tour title in Quebec in April when he won the National Bank of Canada La Sportheque Pro-Am - as a qualifier.
Last month, again as a qualifier, he reached the final of the Saskatoon Boast Open in Saskatchewan – then continued his giant-killing run in Winnipeg, again working through the qualification competition before taking out two seeds in the main draw to reach the last four.
In the semi-finals, Ferreira faced top seed Jan Koukal – and upset the experienced Czech No1 10-11 (1-3), 11-5, 11-6, 11-10 (2-0) in 66 minutes to set up a final clash with local player Robin Clarke, the No2 seed from Ottawa.
It took just 39 minutes for the Mexican underdog to wrap up an 11-9, 11-2, 11-3 victory over the Canadian to clinch the PSA Super Satellite title.
Ferreira started his PSA campaign seven months ago ranked 258 in the world. The PSA newcomer made his top 100 debut this month and looks certain to crash into the top 50 within a short time!
Ferreira Marches On In Winnipeg
Jorge Isaac Baltazar Ferreira, the Mexican who reached last month's final of the Saskatoon Boast Open in Canada as a qualifier, continued his giant-killing run in the country in the Bieber Securities Fall Squash Classic when he upset Australian Wade Johnstone in the quarter-finals of this Super Satellite PSA Tour event in Winnipeg.
The 24-year-old from Mexico City, again a qualifier, beat the fourth seed 8-11, 11-10 (4-2), 5-11, 11-3, 11-9 in 63 minutes – and will now face top seed Jan Koukal, the top seed from the Czech Republic, in the semi-finals.
Koukal conquered another Mexican Jose Angel Becerril, the fifth seed, 11-4, 11-8, 4-11, 9-11, 11-8.
Local interest in the last four will be led by Robin Clarke, the No2 seed from Ottawa who beat South African qualifier Regardt Schonborn 11-10 (2-0), 11-7, 11-9.

Mixed Fortunes For Dutch Brothers In Winnipeg
Dutch brothers Niels and Tom Hoevenaars suffered mixed fortunes in the qualifying finals of the Bieber Securities Fall Squash Classic in Winnipeg, Canada.
Niels went down 11-10 (2-0), 11-9, 11-9 to Mexico's Jorge Isaac Baltazar Ferreira, runner-up in last week's Saskatoon Open in Saskatchewan.
Tom fared better against another Mexican, beating Sergio Lopez 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 to earn a first round match against second-seeded Canadian Robin Clarke.
Clarke is expected to face top seed Jan Koukal, from the Czech Republic , in Sunday's final.
