Galvez Survives Marathon All-Mexican Saskatoon Final
Eric Galvez beat fellow countryman Jorge Isaac Baltazar Ferreira in impressive style in a marathon all-Mexican final of the Saskatoon Boast Squash Open in Saskatchewan, Canada .

Top seed Galvez, from Puebla , and Ferreira, a qualifier, delighted the Saskatoon crowd with breathtaking drops from the back of the court and pounding returns - always counterpunching, always retrieving, and laughing with the crowd after getting yet another let call to extend the rallies.

The favourite looked tired in the second and fourth games but dug deep and found a burst of energy in the fifth to record his 11-6, 7-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6 victory after 95 minutes.

"It was the best final seen in many years as often the players are beat up by Sunday and many finals have been one sided," said tournament organiser Daryl Foreman.

"These two Mexicans put everything they had into the match and the crowd truly appreciated the fine display of shot-making and especially the retrieving and grit."

The success marks the second PSA Tour title of the year for Galvez, and the fifth of his career.

Seeds Scattered In Saskatchewan
Canadian qualifier David Phillips led a series of upsets in the first round of the Saskatoon Boast Squash Open, a $10,000 PSA Tour event in Saskatchewan, Canada.

The 26-year-old from Montreal beat Welshman Rob Sutherland, the No8 seed, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6 to set up a meeting with top seed Eric Galvez. The Mexican defeated Australia's Wade Johnstone 11-5, 11-7, 11-7.

Mexico's Jorge Isaac Baltazar Ferreira, also a qualifier, took out sixth-seeded Australian Steve Finitsis in an 11-9, 11-8, 11-8 scoreline.

But it was Scott Arnold who caused the biggest upset. The unseeded Australian overcame Germany's fourth seed Simon Rosner 11-4, 3-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-4 in 63 minutes and will now take on Ferreira for a place in the semi-finals.
