OCTOBER - MEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Selby wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month
award
Daryl
Selby has been named Squash Player’s Male Player of the Month for
October after winning the biggest title of his long career in
September at the $50,000 Macau Open.
The 33-year-old English international ended a PSA Tour trophy
drought stretching back to April 2012 when Hong Kong’s Max Lee was
forced to pull out of their final due to injury.
“It's a weird one, as it doesn't feel like my biggest title, maybe
because I didn't actually play the final,” Selby commented. “Or
possibly because it's been four and a half years since I last won!”
Nevertheless, the fourth seed from Essex did defeat second favourite
Saurav Ghosal 3/1 in the semi-finals and so reaped the benefits of a
revised summer programme.
“I chose an extra few weeks of training this summer instead of
playing Hong Kong, as I wanted to be fit and fresh for the start of
the season,” Selby explained.
“I played in well in France [at the Nantes Open], but was short of
match practice and then Macau was obviously very pleasing.” |
