REPORTS

Tsz-Wing Topples Cardwell to Claim China Challenge Cup Title

Tournament top seed Tong Tsz-Wing of Hong Kong overcame Australia’s Sarah Cardwell in the final of the China Squash Challenge Cup, PSA W10 event to lift her third PSA World Tour title of 2016.

Tsz-Wing, who has also triumphed at the IJM Land 4th Penang Women’s Open and the Tasmanian Open this year, was meeting Cardwell for the first time since October 2015, where Cardwell prevailed in the semi-final of the Mackay Open.

Tsz-Wing romped to the final without dropping a single game, while World No.51 Cardwell dropped just two games throughout the tournament, with both of those coming during a high-octane semi-final clash with Chinese qualifier Li Dongjin.

The opening game of the final saw Tsz-Wing take it to go 1-0 ahead, before a resurgent Cardwell battled back in the second to restore parity to proceedings at the Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing.

But Tsz-Wing was soon back on top and the 24-year-old World No.50 closed out games three and four by an 11-5 margin to wrap up a 3-1 victory.
