El Sherbini wins Squash Player’s Player of the
Month award again
Nour
El Sherbini has been named Squash Player’s Female Player of the
Month for the second consecutive month after her record-breaking
April.
The 20-year-old became the youngest women’s world champion ever and
the first Egyptian to win the title when she fought back from 2/0
down in a thrilling PSA Women’s World Championship final to beat
Laura Massaro.
Furthermore, with her 6-11, 4-11, 11-3, 11-5, 11-8 victory in
Malaysia, El Sherbini displaced the English woman – who beat her in
the 2013 World Championship final – as world no.1 for the first
time.
"I'm dreaming right now, I didn't imagine I could win this match,"
said El Sherbini.
"I want to say thanks to the Egypt team and everyone here for all
the support that pushed me to the end. Laura is a very tough player
and even until the end I didn't think I could do it.
"At 2/0 down I thought it was over. But [Amr] Shabana just kept
telling me to focus and play squash, and forget about the score and
start again."
