El Sherbini Storms To No.2 In Women’s World Ranking
After a sterling month during which she
lifted the prestigious Allam British Open title and finished
runner-up at the Windy City Open, Egyptian Nour El Sherbini has
stormed up the standings to occupy the No.2 berth in the April PSA
Women's World Rankings released today.
The 20-year-old has been the in-form player so far in 2016 and moves
up three places to a new career high which will come as a boost
ahead of this month's PSA Women's World Championship in which she
will be many people's favourite for success.
El Sherbini is now just 200 points behind World No.1 Laura Massaro,
who remains atop the standings for a fourth consecutive month, while
eight-time World Champion Nicol David falls to No.5 - her lowest
ranking since 2004. David has claimed just one title on the PSA
World Series so far during the 2015/16 season and will be
under pressure to perform on home soil when the PSA Women’s
World Championship gets underway in Kuala Lumpur on April 25.
David is narrowly behind No.3 Raneem El Welily and No.4 Camille
Serme in the standings while British Open runner-up Nouran Gohar
moves up to a career high No.7.
Former World No.4 Joelle King moves up to No.9 to make her first
appearance inside the top ten since October 2014
while England’s Victoria Lust and Hong Kong’s Annie Au both move up
one place to No.18 and No.11, respectively.
