Player’s Player of the Month award
Nour
El Sherbini has been named Female Player of the Month for April by
the London-based Squash Player magazine after maintaining her
astonishing start to 2016 in March.
The 20-year-old stepped up her bid for the world no.1 ranking by
following her runner-up placing at the Windy City Open behind Raneem
El Welily in Chicago at the beginning of the month by becoming the
first Egyptian woman to win a British Open title.
Having also lifted the Tournament of Champions trophy in January,
the world no.5 has claimed two of the first three World Series
events of the year, but it was her British Open success that meant
the most.
“I’m over the moon at becoming the first Egyptian woman ever to win
the prestigious British Open,” she said after her 3/2 final victory
over compatriot Nouran Gohar. “It’s the biggest and most valuable
title of my career.
“I’m really proud to be representing Egypt anywhere, so to be the
first Egyptian to win the British Open is a huge thing for me. I’m
really happy that Egypt is proud of me and I want to keep making
them proud.”
