Sobhy wins
Squash Player’s Player of the Month award
Amanda
Sobhy has been named Female Player of the Month for February by the
London-based Squash Player magazine after reaching her first PSA
World Series final at the Tournament of Champions in January.
The 10th-seeded
American knocked out top seed Raneem Welily, sixth seed Alison
Waters and eighth seed Nouran Gohar before going down 3/1 to seventh
seed Nour El Sherbini in the New York final.
The New York-born 22-year-old also broke
into the world top 10 for the first time in January and put that
achievement down to a combination of hard work and linking up with a
sports dietician.
“I have been doing the same thing for the past
few months by just putting my head down and working hard with my
coaches and fitness trainer to improve on my weaknesses and to keep
improving on my strengths,” she said.
“In addition, I started working with a sports
dietician, Tara Mardigan, who has helped me out a lot, and it's
showing in my movement and speed on court.”
Sobhy is now
targeting further success in the final two World Series events of
the women’s season – the Windy City and British Opens.
