Cameron Pilley has been named Male Player of the Month for January
by the London-based Squash Player magazine after reaching his first
PSA World Series final at the Hong Kong Open in December.
The 33-year-old outsider shocked fifth seed Simon Rosner, third seed
Greg Gaultier and second seed Nick Matthew before having his
giant-killing run ended by tournament favourite Mohamed Elshorbagy
in the final.
Pilley, who is based in the Netherlands, regarded the $150,000 event
as the best individual performance of his 14-year professional
career.
“Hong Kong tops the list because of the quality of players I beat
along the way to the final - world no.7 Simon Rosner, no.1 and
current world champion Greg Gaultier and no.3 Nick Matthew - three
days in succession,” he said.
“It is an achievement I am very proud of. It is also my first World
Series final and I'll be looking to build on that over the next four
months.”
