November - Men's PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Egypt’s
Omar Mosaad has been named Male Player of the Month for November by
the London-based Squash Player magazine for reaching his first PSA
World Series final at the U.S. Open in October, just two months
after the death of his mother and sister in a car accident.
The 27-year-old from Cairo put the double tragedy behind him to
record his first ever win over world no.2 Nick Matthew in 12
attempts in the semi-finals of the $150,000 event.
Although the world no.7 lost in straight games to third seed Greg
Gaultier in the final in Philadelphia, he was delighted with his PSA
Tour breakthrough.
“It was awesome,” Mosaad commented. “I was so excited to play in a
World Series final for the first time and in a tournament as
important as the U.S. Open.
“Before the U.S. Open I played a tournament in Macau as the no.1
seed, but I lost at an early stage. I wasn't much in the mood for
playing at that time due to the painful events that happened to me
regarding my family this year.
“Then after that I focused again and trained so hard with the team
physically andabove all mentally, because, as you know, playing the
U.S. Open is a big thing for a squash player and thank God I did a
good job there. I am so happy with the result.”
