Khan Captures Chicago Open Crown

Number four seed Danish Atlas Khan defeated compatriot Farhan Zaman 3-1 in an all-Pakistani final in the Life Time Fitness Chicago Open, PSA M10 event to lift his first PSA World Tour title of 2015.

The 21-year-old saw off Egypt’s Andrew Wagih Shoukry in the semi-final while Zaman, who was competing for his second successive PSA World Tour title, came through a five-game epic against Abdulla Mohd Al Tamimi, the man he beat in the final of the Any Presence Open three weeks ago.

The first game saw a number of punishing rallies take centre stage as both players attempted to move their opponent off the ‘T’. It was Khan who eventually prevailed in the opener by an 11-7 score line before Zaman battled back to ensure parity in the second.

Khan, the nephew of squash legend Jahangir Khan, was back in front in the third after a number of well-placed drives enabled the World No.68 to rise to an 11-7 triumph.

He dictated the tempo in the fourth and final game to wrap up an 11-7, 9-11, 11-7, 11-5 victory to secure his eighth career PSA World Tour title.

Number one seed Andrew Wagih Shoukry defeated wildcard Brian Byrne 3-1 in a tightly-contested encounter to reach the quarter-final of the Life Time Fitness Chicago Open, PSA M10 event.

Shoukry took the first two games before Irishman Byrne displayed a great deal of tenacity to earn the third. However, Cairo-born Shoukry composed himself to claim the fourth game, sealing an 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5 victory in the process.

The Egyptian will now face Arturo Salazar who comprehensively beat Faraz Khan in straight games.

Also through to the quarter-final is Farhan Zaman after his triumph over Thoboki Mohohlo. The number two seed is fresh from a tournament victory at the Any Presence Open on his last PSA World Tour outing and has set up a quarter-final meeting with Evan Williams after he dispatched Josue Enriquez.

Abdulla Mohd Al Tammimi is set to face Ashley Davies in the next round following a 3-0 win over New Zealand’s Ben Grindrod. Davies eliminated Mexico’s Eric Galvez in a 3-1 victory.

Reuben Phillips is also through after he fought hard to beat Josemar Silva. Despite the match ending in a 3-0 win to Phillips, all three games were incredibly tight but Phillips managed to hold his nerve at the vital moments. Danish Atlas Khan will be looking to eliminate Phillips in the next round having defeated Frenchman Christophe Andre 3-2.
