Lee wins Squash
Player’s Player of the Month award
Hong
Kong’s Max Lee has been named Player of the Month for October by the
authoritative London-based Squash Player magazine after an impressive
September.
The 27-year-old began the month by beating world no.1 Mohamed Elshorbagy
in the first round of the $100,000 China Open and then finished it by
winning the $50,000 Macau Open as fifth seed, defeating then world no.10
Tarek Momen en route to the biggest title of his career.
“I never thought I could get this far, let alone win the tournament,”
said Lee after his Macau triumph. “I was 2/0 down in the first round
[against Pakistan qualifier Nasir Iqbal]!
“I’ve played in Macau so many times and never been this far. It’s also
the first time I’ve gone far enough to play on this glass court, so I’m
very happy about it.
“I came into this tournament with no real expectations. I just focused
on my game and played my best. It’s my first 50k win, so I hope this
will carry me into the new season with more confidence and motivation.”
Lee’s excellent form in September saw him jump five places in the
October world rankings to a career-best 13th.
