Malaysian Tour No.6 2015

Malaysian Tour No.6 2015
Kangar, Perlis, Malaysia, $5k
Men's Event

Number two seed Ivan Yuen came up with a commanding display to down James Huang 3-1 in the final of the Malaysian Tour Squash VI, PSA M5 tournament and capture the title in front of a partisan crowd.

Yuen advanced through to the showpiece event after a strong performance against compatriot Sanjay Singh Chal in the semi-final while Huang overcame Muhammad Hannan to secure his final berth.

25 year-old Yuen, who hails from Penang, asserted his control of the encounter from the outset and pulled away in the opening game to sail into an early lead before replicating the feat in the second.

Huang earned a brief reprieve from his opponent’s brilliance in the third game as he clawed a game back thanks to an 11-7 scoreline in the number three seed’s favour.

However, World No.88 Yuen added a number of inch-perfect drop shots to his repertoire in an attempt to mix things up and it was enough to earn him the win in the fourth game to claim an 11-7, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7 victory and lift the fifth PSA World Tour title of his career.

“I’m happy to win my first PSA World Tour title this year,” enthused Yuen.

“It has been a great week and I hope I can win more titles in the future.”

Result – Final:
[2] Ivan Yuen (MAS) bt [3] James Huang (TPE) 3-0: 11-5, 11-5, 11-3 (57 mins)

Women's Event

Liu Tsz-Ling captured her second PSA World Tour title on this year’s Malaysian Tour after emerging victorious against Vanessa Raj in a battle of the top two seeds in the final of the Malaysian Tour Squash VI, PSA W5 event.

Tsz-Ling, who beat Tong Tsz-Wing in the first iteration of the 2015 tour back in March, claimed her spot in the final after a comfortable 3-0 win over Carmen Lee while Raj eased past Zulhijjah Binti Azan.

The first game was a one-sided affair with Tsz-Ling storming to a one game lead before doubling her advantage with victory in game two.

Roared on by her home crowd, Raj managed to halve the deficit by triumphing in the third game to give spectators hope that she could become the first Malaysian to win an event on the tour this year.

It wasn’t to be however as Tsz-Ling wrestled back momentum of the match to claim an 11-4, 11-8, 2-11, 11-3 victory to lift her second PSA World Tour title of 2015 and leave Raj empty-handed after her third final appearance on this year’s Malaysian Tour.

“This is my second title this year in Malaysia after I won the first one in March,” said Tsz-Ling.

“I hope to win more titles here in Malaysia in the future and I would love to play here again.”

Result – Final:
[1] Liu Tsz-Ling (HKG) bt [2] Vanessa Raj (MAS) 3-1: 11-4, 11-8, 2-11, 11-3 (35 mins)
