REPORTS

Momen and Coll Seeded To Meet in Canada Cup Final

Egypt’s Tarek Momen and New Zealand’s Paul Coll are seeded to face each other in the final of the Troilus Gold Canada Cup, in a possible re-match of the PSA Men’s World Championship final.

The pair met in Qatar in November, where Momen became the fourth different Egyptian to lift the biggest prize in the sport over the last four seasons. He has also lifted the Canada Cup trophy before, as he beat Coll in the final in 2017.

Before a possible meeting in the final of the PSA Silver event with the Kiwi, Momen will face either Spain’s Edmon Lopez or Scotland’s Greg Lobban in the second round. No.7 seed Cesar Salazar and World No.7 Diego Elias will be the expected opponents for the World Champion en route to the final.

Elias is the defending Canada Cup champion, and to reach another final, he will have to go through Momen in the semis. The Peruvian will face either Spain’s Borja Golan or France’s Victor Crouin in the second round, before a possible meeting Egypt’s Mazen Hesham in the second round.

The bottom half of the draw is led by World No.5 Coll, who could face three Brits on the way to the final. He will face either England’s Ben Coleman or Switzerland’s Nicolas Mueller in the second round, before expected clashes with No.6 seed Daryl Selby and Welsh World No.11 Joel Makin en route to the final.

Makin could face the sole Canadian representative in the tournament, wildcard Michael McCue in the second round of the event.
