NOVEMBER - MEN'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Momen wins Squash Player’s Player of the Month award

Egypt’s Tarek Momen is Squash Player’s Player of the Month for the first time, after winning his first PSA Tour event for four years and the biggest title of his career at the $106,000 Channel VAS Championship in England in October.

“I can’t believe it,” said the 30-year-old third seed, after rallying from 2/1 down to beat second-seeded compatriot Ali Farag 3/2 in the final. “I’m really proud of this moment.

“I’ve won very few titles because I never went for winning the [smaller] tournaments; I always tried to get in the biggest tournaments my ranking would allow to expose myself to the best players. As I had college studies, I didn’t have time to lose if I wanted to climb up the rankings.

“Putting everything aside, I’m really happy with how I’ve progressed mentally over the past year and a half. I used to give up when I was really tired; now I’m much better at it. I can be exhausted, but I can still push and find other plans.”

Momen’s last PSA Tour trophy was the $50,000 Macau Open in October 2014, which was also his previous best along with the Malaysian Open in September 2012.

His Channel VAS success at St George’s Hill was only his fifth victory in 19 Tour finals.
