PSA Statement: Alexandria International Squash Open
The Professional Squash Association (PSA) regrets to announce that the
Alexandria International Squash Open - which had been postponed from
September to November - has been cancelled due to funding instability.
The PSA has been in close contact with the tournament organisers, the
Egyptian Squash Federation and other key stakeholders in recent weeks,
with all parties committed to making the tournament happen.
However, the difficulty in securing the commitment from a title sponsor,
in addition to the deadline for entries fast approaching, meant that the
PSA had to accept the decision from the tournament organisers to cancel
the tournament and remove it from the PSA Tour calendar.
"We have worked closely with the organising team and other key
stakeholders over the past few weeks to try and find a resolution but
unfortunately we have been unable to resolve the issue," said PSA Chief
Executive Alex Gough.
"While it is extremely disappointing to lose what was going to be a
brand new tournament, we are excited for the remainder of the season,
with the world's best players appearing at some spectacular locations in
what remains a packed calendar on the PSA Tour."
